On the inaugural day of the fair, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, formally inaugurated the 49th India Carpet Expo and the 4th International Carpet Fair organized at the Carpet Expo Mart, Bhadohi, on Saturday. The Hon’ble Chief Minister remarked,
“The handicraft industry is India’s economic strength. It is impossible to make India a global power without this sector. After independence, global participation had declined, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India’s global presence has steadily grown.”
Other distinguished guests present at the inauguration included Dr. Vinod Bind, Member of Parliament, Bhadohi, and Mrs. Amrit Raj, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India.
Mrs. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary (Textiles), Government of India, and Mrs. Amrit Raj, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), jointly lit the ceremonial lamp and released the Fair Directory.
Despite the challenging global tariff conditions and the complex international environment, the Council successfully hosted 215 overseas buyers from 42 countries, along with over 200 buying representatives (buyer agents). Notably, around 12 buyers from Australia and 10 from the United Kingdom attended the fair — a significant increase compared to the previous edition.
The recent Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) reaffirm that the Indian carpet industry is not only strengthening its presence in traditional markets but also taking firm steps toward market diversification.
Although the number of exhibitors was relatively lower this year due to global trade uncertainties and tariff challenges, those who participated with faith in the Council and the industry reported highly positive results.
The event received an overwhelming global response, attracting buyers from Australia, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Egypt, France, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, USA, Chile, Finland, Iran, Russia, UAE, UK, and several other countries.
According to participant feedback, the Expo generated approximately 1,400 to 1,600 business inquiries, with an estimated business potential of ₹200–240 crore. This reflects the resilience of the Indian handmade carpet industry and its continuing relevance in global trade.
On the second day, Shri J.P.S. Rathore, Minister of State for Cooperation, Government of Uttar Pradesh, visited the fair, interacted with carpet exporters, and appreciated the diverse range of products displayed. He stated that the Carpet Fair will play a vital role in the development of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, adding that organizing such a fair in a district chosen under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme for carpet production holds great significance.
On the concluding day, former Member of Parliament from Bhadohi, Shri Virendra Singh, visited the Expo and encouraged the participating exporters. Speaking to the media, he said,
“The Indian carpet industry is deeply linked to the country’s agriculture and rural economy. Farmers rear sheep for wool, and crops like jute and cotton also support this industry. In rural India, people engage in carpet weaving alongside farming and animal husbandry. The carpet industry is a strong embodiment of self-reliant India, strengthening both agriculture and the rural economy.”
Shri Kuldeep Raj Wattal, Chairman, CEPC, expressed satisfaction over the encouraging results of the fair despite global tariff challenges and international uncertainties. He stated that the Council will now focus on exploring new international markets and organizing more global exhibitions abroad to expand opportunities for the Indian carpet industry.
He also noted that this year’s fair saw participation from new entrepreneurs and startups, symbolizing fresh energy and innovation within the industry.
In conclusion, Shri Wattal extended heartfelt thanks to the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, District Administration, and all officials and personnel involved in maintaining smooth arrangements and security during the fair.
Members of the CEPC Administrative Committee shared that both exhibitors and foreign buyers were extremely pleased with the international-level platform provided by the Council. Participants conveyed their gratitude to the Administrative Committee members and appreciated the efforts of the Council’s Acting Executive Director and staff members.
Chairman Shri Kuldeep Raj Wattal acknowledged the special support and continuous efforts of Administrative Committee Members — Shri Anil Kumar Singh, Aslam Mehboob, Bodh Raj Malhotra, Deepak Khanna, Hussain Zafar Husaini, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Piyush Barnwal, Mahavir Pratap Sharma, Meraj Yasin Jan, Mukesh Kumar Gomber, Mohammad Wasif Ansari, Ravi Patodia, Sanjay Gupta, Shaukat Khan, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, Suryamani Tiwari, and Rohit Gupta — in ensuring the success of the event and taking the industry to greater heights.
Dr. Smita Nagarkoti, Officiating Executive Director, CEPC, stated that the Expo serves as a major platform for enhancing participation in the global market, and exporters are effectively utilizing it to expand their reach.
