Inauguration of Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan Program (GSHPP) in Hand Knotted Carpet CraftUnder National Handicrafts Development Program (NHDP)

Sh. Sarvesh Kumar, MLC, Begusarai, Sh. Raj Kumar Singh, MLA, Matihani, a nd Begusarai, Sh. Rajeev Kumar Verma, District President, Begusarai, Sh. Sanjay Gupta, Mr Sadiq Ali Ansari, Sh. Sanjay Kumar Gupta, Exporter- Member of CEPC local artisans, community members, and representatives from the handicrafts sector.
This specialized training program is being conducted under the National Handicrafts Development Program (NHDP) and is sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It aims to revive and preserve the ancient tradition of Hand Knotted Carpet weaving through the Guru-Shishya model, where seasoned master artisans train and mentor young craftspersons.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Minister Shri Giriraj Singh highlighted the government’s unwavering support for artisan welfare and skill development, stating:
“This initiative is not just about training; it is a mission to secure livelihoods, strengthen our cultural roots, and elevate India’s global reputation in handmade carpets. The GSHPP empowers our youth and honors our artisans.”
The program will span two months, providing comprehensive hands-on training to selected Shishyas (trainees) under the guidance of experienced Gurus (master artisans). The curriculum will focus on traditional weaving techniques, quality control, design development, and market linkages to improve the commercial viability of the craft.
CEPC expresses its gratitude to the Office of DC (Handicrafts) for its continued support and reaffirms its commitment to strengthening India’s artisanal legacy by enhancing skill development and market opportunities in the hand-knotted carpet sector.
