CEPC welcomes the Government’s “Export Promotion Mission” – a game-changer for India’s handmade carpet industry
The Indian Carpet Industry extends its heartfelt thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, and the dynamic team in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, for their continued support and visionary leadership in strengthening India’s export ecosystem.
New Delhi – The Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) expresses its strong appreciation for the approval by the Government of India of the flagship Export Promotion Mission (EPM), announced in the Budget 2025-26, with an outlay of Rs 25,060 crore for FY 2025-26 to FY 2030-31, aimed at strengthening India’s export ecosystem, especially for MSMEs, first-time exporters and labour-intensive sectors.
CEPC welcomes the initiative’s key features, which directly address long-standing challenges faced by the carpet sector — including limited trade finance, high compliance costs and the need for stronger international branding and market access.
Key aspects and relevance to the carpet industry
- The EPM’s two integrated sub-schemes — NIRYAT PROTSAHAN (focused on affordable trade finance) and NIRYAT DISHA (offering non-financial enablers such as export quality/compliance support, packaging & branding, trade-fair participation, warehousing and logistics) — are well-aligned with CEPC’s long-standing advocacy for comprehensive support for handmade carpet exporters.
- Recognising textiles and labour-intensive sectors as priority segments is especially significant for India’s handmade carpet industry, which is deeply labour-intensive and export oriented.
- The digital platform, led by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) for streamlined implementation, offers hope for faster and more transparent access to the support that carpet exporters need.
Mr. Kuldeep Raj Wattal, Chairman of CEPC, highlighted that : The approval of the Export Promotion Mission is a defining moment for India’s handmade carpet industry. For too long, our exporters have faced fragmented support and high barriers. With a unified and digitally-enabled framework, EPM is set to transform how Indian carpets compete globally. CEPC pledges to work hand-in-glove with government and industry to ensure that the benefits flow seamlessly to our members — especially to the artisan-based units across Bhadohi, Mirzapur and beyond. We believe this mission heralds a new dawn of vibrant export growth for Indian handmade carpets.
Mr. Wattal also quoted about the recent meeting with the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, in which they represented the handmade carpet industry and requested immediate relief measures for the sector. He emphasized that the industry, being highly labour-intensive and dependent on exports, requires urgent policy and financial support to mitigate the impact of global market challenges and ensure continued livelihood for lakhs of artisans engaged in the handmade carpet clusters across India.
